Hi guys,

I think most of us have some kind of relation with history, especially warlike and contemporary (WWI, WWII, Civil wars...). In my case, being from Spain, there are only a few remains from our Civil war, poorly maintained or completely forgotten...Because of that, when I go abroad with family or friends (mostly Europe) I take the opportunity to visit everything related with historical events, nearby to there where I go.

In order to help me through this, I use the website called https://www.tracesofwar.com/ .  Here you can take a look by every country, every province, or your village! etc...You can even add info, pics or traces that aren t classified in the site. You ll find from military cemeteries to tanks, museums or bunkers, officialy maintained or not ( that s one of its great points, as it makes you able to find some things publicized nowhere) , with normally really accurate coordinates.

I encourage you all CMP members to upload some pics with a small description so we can enjoy some relics and discover  some interesting war things!

I can contribute to this topic with some pics made by myself around here and there because I love this kind of tourism. In Spain you can find, with a bit of luck, some emplacements from the Civil War and a lot of around old Military bases. Well, in fact, some of them are still in use but old emplacements are obviously abandoned.

Here you can see two small bunkers placed around Brunete, in Madrid,  just in both sides of the road so you can find them extremely easy.

Looks nice and interesting! thanks truth, will go if someday I m in Austria.

I liked the idea, that you can explore the whole complex, trenches, bunkers and so on at your own pace with a given map. You can even go inside some of those turrets and make them turn and raise/lower the guns.

Been in Senegal. I searched if there was something related with this and...I m too lucky. In fact, "battle of Dakar" existed (http://warfarehistorynetwork.com/daily/wwii/debacle-at-dakar/ , https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bataille_de_Dakar), it was an unsuccesful attempt of landing by Free French troops in Dakar, with the main purpose of pressure the Vichy authorities and administration to join De Gaulle's team. Several and different kind of ships were sent. The operation was a failure for Free France and the troops were finally retired.

I found this at Gorée Island, the next forts you can see were used in order to keep out the Free French forces.

Curiously, it isn t exactly abandoned there. People is using it nowadays to expose their art...and to hang out their washing! xD

I don t know if you can see it, maybe putting "shine" option to maximum...but down there numerous artist are guarding their works...and I don t know, but probably some of them even sleep there.

Moses Herodez will probably hate me for this as he's on these pics when he was aged about 8.... but I don't have any without him on.
Bangsbo Fort in Northern Jutland. Also visited the gigantic Hirtshals 10 Battery museum earlier the same day which was a great day out - got to ride the ammo train but sadly no pics.

Let s bring back some life to this topic!

This one will be honouring @CptBocquier and his French Hope job ahahah.

This summer I went to Bastogne and Verdun area. It's certainly a big history related area, especially about WWI and WWII of course. Going for Verdun can spend the whole day there, as it s plenty of fortifications, some of them can be visited. On the other hand, you have also Sedan and Stonne at 70 km from it.  So I couldn't miss this really little village, knowing that there was a big battle in 1940. I knew there is a B1 there, but there were more surprises!

We found this at Pain de sucre, a modern AMX 13!

Then of course we went see the majestic Char B1!

Back home we saw also the Ouvrage of La ferté

We also saw some fortified houses on our way back from Sedan, and one of them is exactly the one which appears in the French hope project.
