Vast Variety of Violence - Part 4 Posted by: Eat Uranium 03.02.2019 19:00 GMT Hello and welcome back to another Forgotten Hope 2 update. Today we have a render of a new rifle that will be equipping the United States forces, the Springfield M1903A3. While the US entered the war with the M1 Garand as its standard infantry rifle, there were the inevitable shortages and delays that lead to the M1903 Springfield rifle seeing widespread use in the first few months. In anticipation of this, production of the Springfield was re-continued in September 1941 using vintage tooling stored since 1919. As this started to wear out, many milled parts were replaced with cheaper stampings, and the original ladder sight on the barrel was replaced with an aperture above the bolt. Called the M1903A3, the rifles with these changes would see frontline service alongside the Garand, particularly seeing use for launching rifle grenades and with the Rangers. Our M1903A3 has been made by Seth Soldier. That's all for this week, but be sure to come back next time for another update. Until then, feel free to visit our Discord, our public forums, and/or our Twitter and Facebook pages to discuss this update and other news. The team used a gravity corer to collect sediment from the bottom of the lake Hidden 4,000ft beneath the surface of the ice, Lake Mercer remains a tantalizing target for investigation. Like something from a science fiction movie, the long-buried bodies of water that reside deep beneath the Antarctic ice make up a veritable 'lost world' that no human has ever visited. Unraveling the secrets hidden within these sub-glacial lakes can teach us much and may even reveal the existence of organisms that have lived there, cut off from the outside world, for thousands of years. To this end, the Subglacial Antarctic Lakes Scientific Access (SALSA) project has been hard at work drilling down through the ice to reach the waters of Lake Mercer over 1km straight down. While Lake Mercer itself isn't completely isolated like some of Antarctica's hidden bodies of water, it can still provide a wealth of information about how water moves beneath the ice crust. This in turn can provide vital clues explaining how global warming may be affecting the ice caps. "We don't know what we'll find," said project chief scientist John Priscu. "We're just learning, it's only the second time that this has been done." Source: https://www.sciencealert.com/scientists-have-just-drilled-into-an-antarctic-lost-lake-for-the-second-time-in-history

Once complete, Starship will be able to fly to the Moon and beyond SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has provided a sneak peak of the firm's prototype interplanetary Starship spacecraft. Development of the next-generation space vehicle, which it is hoped will one day carry astronauts to Mars, appears to be further along than expected as evidenced by a photograph posted up on Musk's Twitter feed on Christmas Eve showing the spacecraft well under construction. Starship has undergone several name changes since it was first announced, having previously transitioned from Mars Colonial Transporter (MCT) to Interplanetary Transport System (ITS). The photograph (see below), which shows the nose cone sitting next to some parked trucks, offers a glimpse of not only its size, but also its stainless steel construction. According to Musk, steel will perform better than lighter carbon fiber material at high temperatures. He also revealed that testing of the new ship could begin within mere months, although the initial flights will likely see the spacecraft simply fly straight up and back down. Still, with the way things are going, Starship may be flying to Mars sooner than you might think.
