Summer 1914, the whole of Europe is falling deep into the Chaos of war, a conflict unknown by its new nature; a gigantic, brutal conflict involving millions of men fighting a senseless war. Soon, iron will rain heavily and the corn fields of Western Europe will be flowing in blood. On this day, the most wonderful summer of the century will turn into Hell. From the small Belgian towns to the large fields of the east of France, passing by the narrow streets of Ypres, relive the year when the old world died for a new one, which changed everything. Which side will you choose ? Will you fight for The Triple Entente to defend Belgium and France against the German appetite for new territories to conquer? Or for the German Empire to exert it's full power over the old continent? Whichever side you fight for, join us in our new Battlefield 1918: Outbreak of Chaos. CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP! What is a campaign? A campaign is a series of connected battles, where we recreate the timeline of the war. Campaigns are played over 8-10 weeks and every Saturday we will have a 3-hour battle with multiple rounds. All battles are counted towards the final score which determines the army that won the overall campaign. Battles will take place every Saturday evenings at 18:00 UTC

The dinosaurs may not have been in decline after all A new study has cast doubt on the idea that the dinosaurs had been in steady decline before the impact. While it is generally accepted that the apocalyptic combination of a catastrophic asteroid strike and intense volcanism brought about the demise of the dinosaurs at the end of the Cretaceous, scientists have long struggled to agree on whether or not the prehistoric reptiles had been thriving beforehand. Some have argued that the dinosaurs had already been in decline before the extinction, in particular due to changes in climate, competition with other species and a failure to speciate fast enough. This, it is thought, may have made them particularly vulnerable to the apocalypse that followed. Now though, a new study has cast doubt on this idea and has instead suggested that the very opposite was true - that the dinosaurs were in fact thriving before they were wiped out. The research used ecological niche modelling to predict the environmental conditions suitable for various dinosaur species and where they might have thrived as the climate changed over time. "The results of our study suggest that dinosaurs as a whole were adaptable animals, capable of coping with the environmental changes and climatic fluctuations that happened during the last few million years of the Late Cretaceous," said lead researcher Alessandro Chiarenza. "Climate change over prolonged time scales did not cause a long-term decline of dinosaurs through the last stages of this period." The findings open up the very real possibility that the dinosaurs may have never disappeared at all (and subsequently we may never have existed) if the asteroid strike hadn't occurred. It seems that we may in fact owe our very existence to their untimely demise. Source: UPI.com

A small section of a 360-degree panorama showing the Curiosity Mars rover’s perch on the lower slopes of Mount Sharpe A panoramic image taken from the slopes of Mount Sharp has revealed the Martian landscape in remarkable detail. After spending the last twelve months atop Vera Rubin Ridge, the adventurous Mars rover is now heading to a trough known as Glen Torridon to study phyllosilicates - a type of clay mineral. "In addition to indicating a previously wet environment, clay minerals are known to trap and preserve organic molecules," said Curiosity Project Scientist Ashwin Vasavada. "That makes this area especially promising, and the team is already surveying the area for its next drill site." The panorama, which is made up of 122 separate photographs, was captured just before Curiosity headed away from Vera Rubin Ridge. The view includes Glen Torridon and upper Mount Sharp. "We've had our fair share of surprises," said science team member Abigail Fraeman. "We're leaving with a different perspective of the ridge than what we had before." Vast Variety of Violence - Part 4 Posted by: Eat Uranium 03.02.2019 19:00 GMT Hello and welcome back to another Forgotten Hope 2 update. Today we have a render of a new rifle that will be equipping the United States forces, the Springfield M1903A3. While the US entered the war with the M1 Garand as its standard infantry rifle, there were the inevitable shortages and delays that lead to the M1903 Springfield rifle seeing widespread use in the first few months. In anticipation of this, production of the Springfield was re-continued in September 1941 using vintage tooling stored since 1919. As this started to wear out, many milled parts were replaced with cheaper stampings, and the original ladder sight on the barrel was replaced with an aperture above the bolt. Called the M1903A3, the rifles with these changes would see frontline service alongside the Garand, particularly seeing use for launching rifle grenades and with the Rangers. Our M1903A3 has been made by Seth Soldier. That's all for this week, but be sure to come back next time for another update. Until then, feel free to visit our Discord, our public forums, and/or our Twitter and Facebook pages to discuss this update and other news.
