  4. Could warp drive be the answer to interstellar space travel ? The idea that a spacecraft could 'warp' over vast distances of space may have genuine potential. Right now the idea of traveling to planets orbiting distant stars is something that we can only dream about - even a spacecraft moving at just under the speed of light would take four years to reach the next closest star and over two million years to reach the next nearest galaxy. The problem is that the laws of physics would seem to prohibit the possibility of anything traveling faster than the speed of light, making long distance space journeys impractical. In recent years however, scientists have been taking a long, hard look at an exotic science-fiction propulsion system that, as it turns out, is not solely limited to the Star Trek franchise. One major advocate is undergraduate engineer Joseph Agnew who has been focusing his efforts on a theoretical implementation known as Alcubierre Warp Drive. According to the theory, this real-world warp drive would work by stretching the fabric of space-time in a wave, contracting the space in front of the ship and expanding the space behind. A spacecraft riding this wave could effectively ride the 'warp bubble' and reach speeds far exceeding the speed of light. Because the ship is not actually moving through space-time (but is in fact moving space-time itself), it would not be subject to the negative effects of traveling at relativistic speeds. "In the past 5-10 years or so, there has been a lot of excellent progress along the lines of predicting the anticipated effects of the drive, determining how one might bring it into existence, reinforcing fundamental assumptions and concepts, and, my personal favorite, ways to test the theory in a laboratory," Agnew told University Today. "The LIGO discovery a few years back was, in my opinion, a huge leap forward in science, since it proved, experimentally, that spacetime can 'warp' and bend in the presence of enormous gravitational fields, and this is propagated out across the universe in a way that we can measure." "Now that we know the effect is real, the next question, in my mind, is, 'how do we study it, and can we generate it ourselves in the lab ?'" As things stand, the biggest hurdle to overcome is generating enough energy to make it work. Eventually though, as technology improves, it is not outside the realms of possibility that in the future, the Alcubierre Warp Drive could actually become a very effective way for us to travel to the stars. 9. Chiron's Chariot Posted by: Eat Uranium 23.02.2020 20:00 GMT Hello and welcome back to another Forgotten Hope 2 update. Today we are showing off a render of an often overlooked tank in the British arsenal, the Centaur IV. The A27L Centaur started life as an offshoot of the A24 Cavalier tank, which was a proposed replacement design for the A15 Crusader started in 1940 by Nuffield. The Cavalier had finally reached trials in 1942, and immediately showed problems with its underpowered Nuffield Liberty engine it inherited from the Crusader. While some were produced, none would see service outside of Britain. What would become the Centaur was based on a design to fit the Cavalier with the new Rolls Royce Meteor engine. Such equipped tanks would become the A27M Cromwell, but concerns over the production rate of Meteors lead to an updated Liberty engine being substituted. The only A27L to see combat service was the Centaur IV, fitted with the Ordnance QF 95mm Howitzer. These served with the Royal Marine Armoured Support Group on D-Day, and were given distinctive azimuth markings around their turrets to allow their fire to be directed by an observer from the landing craft. Equipped with deep wading snorkels and with the hull MG blanked off to improve water-tightness, they were driven ashore and used for at least a few more weeks. Our Centaur IV has been modified by Matt Baker from the Cromwell IV made by Malsa. Matt Baker has also updated the old textures made by Montoya of our Cromwell IV and VI. http://forgottenhope.warumdarum.de/news.php?id_news=544

  16. We would like to give a quick and short information regarding the next Forgotten Hope 2 Campaign. Everyone is working hard in the backstage. Things are going as planned. Maps are being prepared, armies setups are in the final touches, regiments logos are ready and much more is being worked on. The plan is to open the campaign in March. More news will come soon! Thank you for your patience.
  17. Fortunately this is unlikely to ever actually happen A new NASA video shows a simulation of what would happen if all the world's oceans were to drain away. In recent years we've heard a lot about the potential for sea levels to rise due to global warming, but what would things be like if the opposite were to happen and the sea simply disappeared ? In a recently updated version of a NASA simulation originally created by physicist and animator Horace Mitchell, planetary scientist James O'Donoghue, who now works at the Japanese Space Agency (JAXA), has shown just what such a scenario might be like. The footage shows what would happen if the oceans started to disappear, first exposing the hidden areas of land surrounding the continents and then moving on to the deeper parts of the sea. Some of these areas of land were actually exposed relatively recently during the last ice age when a lot of the world's water was locked up in huge ice sheets. Some of our ancestors would have used these land bridges to spread to otherwise inaccessible parts of the world. "I slowed down the start since, rather surprisingly, there's a lot of undersea landscape instantly revealed in the first tens of meters," said O'Donoghue. "When the last ice age occurred, a lot of ocean water was locked up as ice at the poles of the planet. That's why land bridges used to exist. Each of these links enabled humans to migrate, and when the ice age ended, the water sort of sealed them in." By the time the simulation reaches 10,000 meters below sea level, pretty much all the water has gone. Fortunately though, such a scenario is incredibly unlikely to actually occur in real life. 18. OK Boomer Posted by: Eat Uranium 26.01.2020 19:00 GMT Hello and welcome back to another Forgotten Hope 2 update. Today we are showing off a render of another Italian explosive and some information on some new tools for some of our sniper kits on Eastern Front maps. The B4 landmine is the first anti-personnel mine designed for the Italian Army. Designed in 1935, it saw extensive use by the Italians during the war, though it would prove costly and would ultimately be replaced by simpler models. The B4 is designed to be fixed above ground to a stake or tree and be detonated via tripwire. The cylindrical casing includes a flat area with 6 sharp spikes that could be pushed into a tree trunk. The internal explosive chamber was surrounded by metal fragments, that would be thrown in all directions upon detonation. The B4 was occasionally buried. Ours was made by Matt Baker. The German B-Patrone and the Soviet PZ were standard rifle calibre explosive bullets intended to be used for range setting of machineguns. Such projectiles had been prohibited by the Declaration of St Petersburg in 1868 for use against men, but they were in common use by snipers on both sides of the Eastern Front. In February 1945, German snipers were even officially issued 20 bullets each for use on the Eastern Front only. Absolutely devastating in use, these bullets were used in situations where an absolutely certain kill was needed.
