  4. Would communication be possible ? If we ever do make contact with intelligent aliens, would we have any chance of understanding them ? While astronomers have been scouring the skies for years in search of extraterrestrial signals, comparatively little research has been done on the matter of interpreting an alien message. To help address this, a group of linguists recently got together in Los Angeles in an effort to discuss the challenges of translating an extraterrestrial language. Entitled 'Language of the Cosmos', the workshop was attended by several high-profile language experts including David Peterson who invented the Dothraki language for Game of Thrones. According to linguist Noam Chomsky, there is a 'universal grammar' that connects all languages. "Chomsky has often said that if a Martian visited Earth, it would think we all speak dialects of the same language, because all terrestrial languages share a common underlying structure," said Douglas Vakoch, president of METI ( Messaging Extraterrestrial Intelligence ). "But if aliens have language, would it be similar to ours? That's the big question." While some of the presentations at the conference offered a positive vision of a future where contact with extraterrestrials would be possible, others were less optimistic, instead suggesting that the potential for miscommunication and misunderstanding would be too high. Ultimately however, until such a scenario occurs for real, we will never truly know for sure. Full article here: http://astronomy.com/news/2018/05/what-would-an-alien-language-sound-like

Hey. You can check the FH2 forums. Maybe there is something working there.
  6. A soldier demonstrating a prototype 'Third Arm' system The unique device acts as a third limb, enabling soldiers to aim and fire heavier weapons during combat. Developed by engineers at the U.S. Army Research Laboratory, the device, which is officially titled 'Third Arm', is both lightweight and works without requiring a power source. "It can help stabilize the weapon and take the load off of their arms," said mechanical engineer Dan Baechle. "It's made from composite materials to make it as light as possible, but also to ensure the range of motion that soldiers need." "We've actually tested it with the M249 and M240B machines guns. The M240B weighs 27lb, and we were able to show that you can take the weight of that weapon completely off of the Soldiers' arms." Whether or not the device is likely to see use during live combat however remains unclear. "Right now it's a prototype device, and it's a fairly early stage prototype device," said Baechle. "It's been getting a lot of interest higher up in the Army, but also online with some of the stories that have come out. We're using some of the interest to help motivate further development of the device." Full article here- https://www.army.mil/article/206011/army_researchers_envision_third_arm_for_soldiers
  7. I think we can include this next video in the extreme sports:
  8. Great video @Spieler4 . I just wished you kept the same kind of music that plays in the 1st minute. The rest makes my ears hurt and dont feel like watching more of the video.

    Football!

And Real Madrid wins it again. Was cheering for Liverpool, but without Salah and with that GK horrible perfomance nothing could be done. Deserved win by RM.
  10. Antarctica was once a warm region filled with forests and swamps Giant troughs running for hundreds of kilometers have been found deep beneath the ice at the South Pole. It might seem like a barren wasteland of snow and ice, but beneath the surface Antarctica is home to a diverse landscape of tall mountains and deep gorges that remain completely hidden from view. This latest discovery, which was made by a team of researchers led by Dr Kate Winter of Northumbria University, involved using airborne ice-penetrating radar to help map out the terrain. The largest of the gorges, which has been named Foundation Trough, measures 350km long, 35km wide, and to reach it you would need to drill down more than 2km through the ice. "These troughs channelise ice from the centre of the continent, taking it towards the coast," said Dr Winter. "Therefore, if climate conditions change in Antarctica, we might expect the ice in these troughs to flow a lot faster towards the sea." "That makes them really important, and we simply didn't know they existed before now." Original article here : http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-44245893

  12. The Road to Forgotten Hope 2.53 Part 4 Posted by: Eat Uranium 24.05.2018 18:00 GMT Hello and welcome back to another Forgotten Hope 2 update. Today we are showing off a final render before tomorrow's big update! The AVT-40 is a select fire modification to the Soviet SVT-40 semi-automatic rifle. A thicker stock and a slightly modified muzzle break were added to counteract the extra force of fully automatic fire, but the rifle proved difficult to control and suffered from frequent breakages. Put into production in May 1942 to supplement the shortage of light machineguns, it was out of production again by the following summer. Our AVT-40 has been made by Seth Soldier. Finally today, we'd like to list some of the changes in version 2.53: 1 New Nation: Poland 4 New maps: Ihantala Lenino Ogledów Studienka 8 New weapons, including: Lahti L-35 Luftfaust B G33/40(t) Bren Mk.2 11 New vehicles and stationary weapons, including: Ferdinand T-34 model 1941 PM-43 120mm Mortar Junkers Ju 87G-1 Studebaker US6 ZPU Many further changes, including: New 16 and 32 layers for St.Vith and Totalize Selectable ironsights for sniper rifles Improved lighting and balance for several maps Improved handling of halftracks on hills Many weapons have new first and third person animations Contested flags are now marked on the minimap by a flashing icon A more detailed changelog can be seen here.
  13. The Road to Forgotten Hope 2.53 Part 3 Posted by: Eat Uranium 23.05.2018 18:00 GMT Hello and welcome back to another Forgotten Hope 2 update. We are showing off a render today, but before we get to that we have the link to the files needed by server administrators to get their servers set up and running in time for the release of 2.53. You can find these files here. You do not need to download these files unless you administer a server. The files required to play 2.53 will be available through the Launcher. The original design of the Suomi KP/-31 had not included a muzzle brake, and the addition of the lengthy device in 1940 was opposed by Aimo Lahti, who had originally designed the weapon. It was of questionable effectiveness, and since roughly half of the weapons in Finnish service did not have the new muzzle brake, we have got Stubbfan to remove it from Seth Soldier's original model. The Nebelhandgranate 39B is a smoke grenade based on the German Model 24 stick grenade. The explosive filling is replaced by a mix of chemicals that when ignited would produce a dense white smoke that was emitted through holes cut in the base of the grenade's body. The white lines were added to the body and stick to aid identification, and Seth Soldier has also included the grooves that were added later to aid identification in the dark. To go along with this render, we also have a handful of screenshots showing some of the new content coming in 2.53. Finally, Ts4EVER has posted a blog update giving a nice overview of the four new maps. Go read it here.
  14. The Road to Forgotten Hope 2.53 Part 2 Hello and welcome back to another Forgotten Hope 2 update. Today we are showing off the fourth and final map to make it into version 2.53 update. You may have just seen it in the trailer posted earlier today, but for those of you who haven't yet, today's map is Ihantala. It covers the assaults by the Red Army against the Finnish defences in and around the village of Ihantala at the end of June 1944. Ihantala was made by Flippy Warbear and hitm4k3r. You can find the minimap and a preliminary vehicle listing here.
  15. Great looking trailer @Hawk ! Well done mate!
  16. The Road to Forgotten Hope 2.53 Part 1 Hello and welcome back to another Forgotten Hope 2 update. It has been just under two years now since a Road to... news update was last posted here, and we are pleased to be able to say that the wait is over. Forgotten Hope 2.53 will be going live on: Friday 25th May 2018 We'd all like to extend a big thank you to all our fans who have continued to play over the last decade or more, and we hope to see you on the servers this Friday! Additionally, we would like to thank our team of betatesters for their dedication to improving our work, as well as our developers for the time and effort they put in to make things happen. Last but not least, none of this would be possible without the web hosting generously provided by Fluestertuete. Lets kick things off by showing off the trailer for version 2.53 made by @Hawk: Be sure to come back as the week progresses to see more news before the final update! That's all for today, but be sure to come back later for another update.
