The changes Valve have introduced in the Beta depot last week, including Tec-9 adjustments, crouch-jump bug fix, and removal of the silent jump, have now been applied to the main game.

Earlier this week, a Beta update was released by Valve, which perhaps most importantly addressed the crouch-jump bug, thanks to which players were able to spot over various objects without being seen.

Apart from that, the update that is now live in the main game includes significant adjustments to the Tec-9's accuracy and ammo, which is Valve's first step towards "emphasizing skillful use" of pistols.

Here is the changelog of today's update:

    [GAMEPLAY]

    • Shipping initial changes to pistols with the goal of emphasizing skillful use of the weapons, beginning with the Tec-9.
    • Tec-9: The Tec-9 has been adjusted to emphasize aiming while retaining the weapon’s high mobility. The current changes include:
      • slightly improved accuracy when taking a single shot
      • significantly reduced accuracy when firing rapidly
      • magazine and reserve ammo reduced to 18 and 90, respectively
    • Extended the existing camera height restriction system to include cases where a player is in the air, preventing the first-person camera from rising above their third-person head.
    • Players will now make a landing sound if they un-crouch while crouch-jumping.
    • Fixed several inconsistencies where sounds were not broadcast when a player was occluded by a wall. (Thanks, simpleavaster!)

The new employee will be tasked with, among other things, protecting Earth from alien contamination.

The role, which is worth $187,000 a year, will initially involve ensuring that bacteria and other contaminants from the Earth do not make their way on to Mars or other planetary bodies.

"Planetary protection is concerned with the avoidance of organic-constituent and biological contamination in human and robotic space exploration," the job posting reads.

"NASA maintains policies for planetary protection, applicable to all space flight missions that may intentionally or unintentionally carry Earth organisms and organic constituents to the planets or other solar system bodies, and any mission employing spacecraft, which are intended to return to Earth and its biosphere with samples from extraterrestrial targets of exploration."

The new officer is likely to play a prominent role in preparing NASA's upcoming Mars rover for launch in 2020 as well as in overseeing the design of the space agency's planned mission to Europa.

Under the Outer Space Treaty of 1967, any space mission must have less than a 1 in 10,000 chance of contaminating an alien world - a rule that is particularly important when that world may harbor life.

Ensuring that a sample return mission does not contaminate the Earth is also of utmost importance.

  5. In CS:GO Beta depot's newest update, Valve addressed the crouch-jump bug, removed the ability to do a silent jump, and made adjustments to the Tec-9.

BIG's infamous crouch-jump mechanic has been addressed in Valve's Beta update

The Beta update most importantly features a fix to the crouch-jump bug that was in heavy use by BIG in the PGL Major Krakow cycle, which resulted in heated discussions surrounding the use of the glitch at the Major itself in Poland, before all teams agreed not to use it throughout the remainder of the tournament.

Valve has now extended the camera height restriction system to mid-air cases so that the first-person camera is prevented from reaching higher than their head in third-person.

Furthermore, the jump technique thanks to which players were able to spot over various obstructions silently (by crouch-jumping and releasing crouch mid-air) has practically been removed, as such action will result in a landing sound in the newest Beta update.

The developers have also addressed the Tec-9 as the first step towards "emphasizing skillful use" of pistols, which includes several changes to the popular Terrorist-sided weapon.

The full changelog of CS:GO Beta depot's 1.35.9.7-rc1 version can be seen below:

Facebook was forced to shut down one of its artificial intelligence experiments due to an unforeseen issue

In what could be a sign of things to come, the social media giant took the decision to pull the plug after the system came up with its own language and started communicating in unintelligible sentences.

The news highlights the potential unpredictability of artificial intelligence systems and the reason why Elon Musk, Stephen Hawking and other prominent figures in the science and technology sectors have been warning us for years that AI poses a major risk to the future of mankind.

While a chatbot making up its own language isn't threatening in itself, it's easy to see how, in the future, a more advanced AI could, for example, decide that humanity is a threat to its existence.

Having two AIs communicating in a made-up language that only they can understood is a chilling example of how such systems could thwart their human creators and carry out their own agendas.

In a worst case scenario, intelligent machines could even be given control over weapon systems.

"I have access to the very most cutting edge AI, and I think people should be really concerned about it," Elon Musk said recently. "AI is a rare case where I think we need to be proactive in regulation instead of reactive. Because I think by the time we are reactive in AI regulation, it's too late."

An example of what happens when two AIs get in to a conversation can be viewed below.
