A new study has suggested that the mind can still be active even after the body stops showing signs of life. The research, which was led by Dr Sam Parnia, director of critical care and resuscitation research at NYU Langone School of Medicine in New York City, involved investigating patients who had suffered a cardiac arrest and had 'died' but who had then been successfully resuscitated by doctors. The team found accounts of patients who recalled being aware of entire conversations being carried out in the room even after they had been pronounced dead. By cross-referencing these accounts with medical staff present at the time, it was possible to verify that what they had heard was real. Some of the patients had even managed to see things happening around them during this time. Death is typically defined as the point at which the heart has stopped and blood is no longer flowing to the brain, however now it seems as though a person's mind can still remain active after this time. "Technically, that's how you get the time of death - it's all based on the moment when the heart stops," said Dr Parnia. "Once that happens, blood no longer circulates to the brain, which means brain function halts almost instantaneously." "You lose all your brain stem reflexes - your gag reflex, your pupil reflex, all that is gone." Back in 2013, researchers at the University of Michigan determined that the brain may enter in to a "hyper-alerted state" for a short period of time after clinical death. Could this be the point at which near-death experiences occur ? The search for answers continues. Valve has released a new update for CS:GO, officially bringing the reworked version of Dust2 to the game client. After hitting the beta depot last week, the new Dust2 is now officially live, replacing the previous version of the map in the game. In an update post, Valve confirmed that it will "continue to update" Dust2 "as more feedback comes in". On Monday, a small pre-release patch with minor fixes to the map was released. Following Wednesday's update, the Perfect World graffiti and stickers are now available for purchase worldwide after a one-month period in which they were exclusive to Chinese players downloading CS:GO from the Perfect World client. Below you can find the patch notes from the latest update: [GAMEPLAY] Replaced de_dust2 with updated version. Improved de_nuke bot navigation. [AUDIO] Unique jump landing sounds for all major surfaces. Unique sounds for picking up weapons and grenades. Unique bullet impact sounds for vehicles and barrels. Re-balanced music kits volume to be more in-line with the overall game volume. Improved resolution and quality of HRTF algorithm. [MISC] Both Perfect World Sticker Capsule Limited Time Offers and Graffiti Capsule Limited Time Offers are now available worldwide. Added normal maps for “Gut Knife | Autotronic”, “Bayonet | Autotronic”, and “M9 Bayonet | Autotronic”. Just 24 hours after revealing that the new Dust2 would soon hit the beta depot, Valve has released the map. In February Dust2 was replaced by Inferno in the active map pool, and since then one of the most iconic maps in Counter-Strike history has been under rework and it seems to be almost done now. According to Valve, it is "an updated, refined version" but at first sight, it looks like the old Dust2 - just with new textures and minor changes. Many expected the skybox above tunnels to be removed to make it possible to throw grenades over the roof, but this is not the case for the map yet as the skybox still appears. We have collected some photos of the new map below here: A site Mid Short Lower tunnel Upper tunnel B site New models The reworked Dust2 is still in beta, making it not possible to play yet unless you go to Library and right click on CS:GO and choose Properties. Then you navigate to the Beta tab and choose to download 1.36.0.7.-rc1. Valve is looking for feedback on the map, which will be continuously updated in the coming months.

Is this the future of electricity generation ? Scientists believe that wind farms in the North Atlantic could provide enough electricity to power the world. Floating wind farms could one day help to provide the majority of the world's power, that is, at least, according to a new paper published this week which claims that ocean-based wind farms are capable of producing three times as much electricity as land-based sites. Until now, wind turbines placed at sea have had to be anchored to the sea floor, but with the advent of floating turbines it will become possible to place much larger wind farms further away from the shore. One of the plans considered for the study describes a wind farm covering 70,000 sq km of the North Atlantic with the capacity to power the entire United States for ten months of the year. Set up enough such sites, scientists argue, and it may even be possible to power the whole world. The first ever floating wind farm, which is known as Hywind, is currently being constructed off the coast of Scotland and is set to begin commercial production before the end of the year. Capable of generating electricity for 20,000 households, the project, if successful, could pave the way for much larger floating wind farms in the future and offer a means with which to replace conventional fossil-fuel based power plants with renewable energy on a much wider scale. "This is an industry in its birth stage," said study co-author Ken Caldeira. "It really does look like the open-ocean environment can sustain a lot more power generation than on land." "But making these technologies cheap enough to compete will be challenging." Full article here: https://www.seeker.com/earth/energy/floating-wind-farms-in-the-north-atlantic-could-power-the-world

Valve has revealed that a revamped version of Dust2 will be released in the next beta depot. Dust2, without a doubt the most iconic map in Counter-Strike history, was replaced by Inferno on the Active Duty map pool in early February, with fans eagerly waiting for updates since then. According to Valve, the Dust2 rework will bring "an updated, refined version" of the map, which will be available for testing in the upcoming beta depot. It could take several months before the new Dust2 version finds its way back in the Active Duty group. The reworked version of Inferno, popularly called "Infernew", was released in October of 2016 but only returned to competitive play in February, following several updates.

FRIDAY , 13 October , 18GMT , the map Bloody Gulch will be played in the second battle of the campaign History Battle of Bloody Gulch When the 101st Airborne entered the town of Carentan on June 12, 1944 (D-Day + 6) after heavy fighting on the two previous days, they met relatively light resistance. The bulk of the surviving German defenders (from the 6th Fallschirmjäger Regiment) had withdrawn to the southwest the previous night after a heavy Allied naval and artillery bombardment. Both sides realized the importance of the town: for the Americans, it was a link between Utah Beach and Omaha Beach, and would provide a base for further attacks deeper into German-occupied France. For the Germans, recapturing Carentan would be the first step towards driving a wedge between the two U.S. landing beaches, severely disrupting and possibly even destroying the Allied invasion. The remnants of the 6th Fallschirmjäger resupplied and were reinforced by assault guns and panzergrenadiers of the 17th SS Panzergrenadier Division on the night of June 12–13. The combined force counterattacked northeast towards Carentan at dawn on June 13, just as the 506th and 501st PIR were attacking southwest to enlarge the American defensive perimeter around the town. The 506th took the brunt of the attack, and by 10:30 a.m., the outnumbered and outgunned paratroopers were pushed almost back to the outskirts of the town. Under intense German fire, F Company of the 506th's left flank broke and fell back. This exposed D Company's right flank, who also fell back, leaving E Company all alone. Cpt. Thomas P. Mulvey, the commanding officer of F Company,[2] was relieved on the spot by Lt. Colonel Robert Strayer. When a German tank attempted to penetrate the left flank, two soldiers of E Company successfully destroyed it with a bazooka. Meanwhile, battalion headquarters stopped the retreat of D and F companies, pushing them forward 150 meters to cover the left flank.[1] The 2nd Battalion of the 502nd PIR took up positions to the right of the 506th, but by 1:00 p.m. they too had suffered many casualties, and the German attack was on the verge of breaking through their defenses. At this critical point, sixty tanks from Combat Command A of the 2nd Armored Division and accompanied by infantry of the 29th Division,[1] counterattacked southwest from Carentan at 4:30 p.m.,[1] inflicting severe casualties on the Germans and forcing them to withdraw. The American victory led to the linkup of forces from Utah and Omaha beaches, creating a secure lodgement area for further American operations. The actions of the 507th Parachute Infantry Regiment during the Graignes incident (better known as the Battle of Graignes) south-east of Carentan, played a part in the successful capture of Carentan and the Battle of Bloody Gulch. Had the mis-dropped paratroopers of the 507th not stopped the advance of the 17th SS Panzergrenadier Division, it is possible that the German division could have made it to Carentan before the 101st Airborne Division. Furthermore, the 507th caused the Germans significant losses in the few days that they were holding Graignes and this likely influenced the battle at the Bloody Gulch.
