take your time! starting something (vanilla) here in autumn/winter sounds good, doesn't it?
meanwhile some attraction can be created through videos and updates.

as we chatted about it via discord, the two main ww2 mods for arma III are still being developed. so faces of war (FOW) had an update few days ago in which new content was added. although the lite-version of iron front for arma III (IFA3) doesn't offer high-res textures as FOW, its ample content can be used for free. for example both mods are used in the freshly released scenario liberation: 1944 ("cinematic trailer").

(yep, i'll stop for now. ;))

I installed Arma III out of curiosity on my work computer that's running Linux and has shittier hardware than my system at home. It ran surprisingly well and the game seems cool! I'm definitely in, doesn't matter what kind of campaign you guys are gonna play.

that's great! we're getting more! B|
just keep in mind that there's still a noticable difference of performance between single player / coop missions and a full arma III server (e.g. king of the hill 100+).
other than that i don't worry too much about performance regarding cmp's ambitions. we'll see if or in which way the included mods (in one data package ergo one dl) may affect it, though.

"Explore a different perspective on the battlefield with the addition of a humanitarian faction, van, drone, mini-campaign, and much more, in the Arma 3 Laws of War DLC.

Charity

Half of Bohemia Interactive's net revenue from direct sales (not as part of bundles) of the Arma 3 Laws of War DLC in 2017 will be donated to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). The total amount raised will be announced on www.bistudio.com in 2018.

Key Features

  • International Development & Aid Project (IDAP) - This new faction, IDAP, is a non-governmental organization which is specialized in rapidly responding to humanitarian disasters. The faction is composed of new IDAP-branded clothing and gear, including outfits for specialized roles such as Explosive Ordnance Disposal specialists, as well as many other tools, supplies, and other items.
  • "Remnants of War" Mini-Campaign - Take on the role of IDAP explosive specialist Nathan MacDade, who is tasked with identifying and deactivating mines after the war in the Republic of Altis & Stratis has ended. While you are being interviewed by an investigative journalist, you will uncover what happened in the town of Oreokastro, experiencing the events from the perspective of various sides, in recollections that span multiple periods of time.
  • Van - IDAP makes use of a new van, which comes in multiple variants, with over twenty custom liveries in total. Each variant caters to a specific purpose, such as cargo logistics or the transport of people. There is also an ambulance variant available.
  • Utility & Demining Drone - IDAP has a new drone at its disposal to be able to quickly move cargo or supplies to a specific location. A special variant of the drone is used as part of IDAP's demining operations.
  • APERS Mine Dispenser - The APERS Mine Dispenser is an effective but controversial area denial weapon system. It is typically only used in desperate situations, and can have devastating effects even long after a conflict has ended.
  • Vests, Bags, Headgear & Facewear - Various pieces of new gear are available to help you carry out your duties. This includes safety vests, messenger bags, hard hats and press helmets, ear protectors, safety goggles, and much more.
  • Additional Content - The Laws of War DLC adds a variety of miscellaneous additional content, such as time trial challenges for the new van and drone, a paramedic outfit, and a training mine."

Bought it on Steam sale last week and it looks awesome. Not sure if I have time to improve my lacklustre ability and there are way too many controls.
Would love to play a simplified version of it online, for sure, especially in WW2 modded version.

FWIW I just dropped the cash on an Oculus headset which should arrive next week and Arma III is compatible using an app. So expecting lots of fun with this. (As in fun "getting killed constantly").

together with @dugenjaz i had another try of the Liberation 1944 IFA3 server of WaW.

18 ppl were on and they're serious about it. first we spawned, got equipment.
lots of talk was going on, hard to focus on everything, but when it was about to get a ride and move on all together, it worked out.
20 minutes of driving, then a short briefing in a tent and warming up at the fire until we finally went out to do our jobs.
we joined the 44th Divisions squad which build a row of several tanks and trucks. the convoy started in the late afternoon, moving through a french winter landscape.

we're heading towards a small town occupied by the germans. i had to go the last kilometers by foot, when the night turned in.
so yes, i was late at that appointment. sadly for us/me overall the enemy contacts were pretty seldom and short-timed.

but when actions got started it was flashing. the people were communicative and playing as a team. dugen captured some evil computergerman equipment such as the K98 and a stahlhelm for himself (for fashion reasons, i think). anyway - we had some gripping coordinated attacks on (in this case) german positions and sometimes were taken out by them, dragged back that medics could revive us.

we had a good time and are looking forward to more great IFA3/FOW gameplay!

saturday night, more than 20 ppl online.
we started ingame at nighttime, had to make use of the flare pistol to see something.
a stuka's tail gunner caused us problems while moving towards the next position. garand-fire into the sky! sadly there's no screen that captured this daunting scenery.
at dawn we came back to infantry battles. had some good teamplay, reviving and getting revived! - don't forget your medikit!
out of ammo i decided to grab a G43 which is the better rifle imo, also in this game. ;)
