Hello everybody, welcome to CMPs first championship in Project Cars 2, the

    CMP GT3 Championship #1

We'll be racing on tracks around the world, newer ones, old classics and some special ones. As the name states, your weapon of choice can be any car in the GT3 class!

    Our race setup is simple:

    • We race on a Sunday at 17:30 UTC
    • We start with a qualifying for 20 minutes to compete for pole position.
    • We will have a race for approximately 15-20 laps, depending on the track.
    • The schedule contains 5 days of racing, each one with 2 races on different tracks.

Our setup is designed to give everybody a chance to compete without having to prepare every single race for 2 weeks straight. Some practice on the tracks we are going for might be helpful though ;).

You can find more information in this discussion in the Project Cars 2 forum.

With every race, you get the chance to gain points, if you end up between place 1 and 10.

    The Cars

You are free to choose from any of the cars in game, as long as they compete in the GT3 class. An overview of all GT3 cars is either available in game or here.

You are required to choose a livery for your car and announce it before the championship starts, so we can configure everything for you.

If you want to team up with somebody (not mandatory, and the Constructor's Championship is more of a fun addition than our main goal) it would be nice if you could go for the same car and livery, to ensure that the teams are recognizable for others.

    The Rules
    (MUST READ)

    The rules are simple::

    • We'll have the in game rule system enabled, that gives you penalties for gaining an advantage by leaving the track.

    • Every serious crash will be inspected by the community afterwards - a crash that was caused by one player and did harm any other player by demolishing their car or forcing it off-track might be penalized by public vote, resulting in a loss of points in the global championship.

This rule aims at those, who harm other people by purpose or cause otherwise avoidable crashes by simply behaving in a ridiculous manner on the track. As we don't have any official neutral steward by now, we'll have to plan the exact procedure when it happens the first time.

    • You must have audio spotters and visual markers for cars that are close to you enabled. Not seeing anybody around you is not an excuse.

Bla bla Mr. Freeman, where can I sign up?

You can sign up in this thread, by giving me information to these open questions:

As we will be using Project Cars 2 in game championship feature, it is necessary that you become friends with me on Steam. Otherwise, I cannot invite you to the championship. I know, you have enough annoying friends, but sadly there is no way of overcoming this limitation in the game.

We'll make sure to check everything within the next 2 weeks and continue with a Practice Day next Sunday (21.07.2019), that I'll also use to make sure everybody is invited correctly, before we start with the first race on the 28th.

  2. Oh I think I'm actually somewhere in between @turbomursu. What I definitely dislike are games with really poor force feedback (which are usually the more arcade ones as their controls are more optimized for controllers anyways), as you don't get a feeling of how the cars handle then (which doesn't really matter to anybody who is not using a wheel anyways). I'm not spending hours over hours on the setups right now, and I probably will not do so in the future. Everytime I try to set everything up by myself, my cars start doing crazy things. So I decided I better stop doing so :D

But on the other hand, for me a setup that includes things like tire wear (as you don't have to care about tire wear in our short races, unless you are going close to the edge everytime) or pitstops (which I only like for their ability to repair my screwed up car easily) is not too complex. You don't have to take that into account unless you want to get every .001 second out of your car. And I like some things like fixed teams as they give the game a somehow more "realistic" feeling (you know having team AchtungsQuickNowSilver in their quick silver cars all the time and you know exactly who you just crashed in).

I'm definitely not suggesting going for 2 real life hours of endurance racing in cars with disabled assistants with first person enforced and fast tire wear so have to change your tires every second round to the correct new ones or otherwise you don't stand a chance because the weather changes all the time during the race. I tried to find a setup that is somehow appealing to both groups, and Quick already suggested having the assistants enabled, so we'll have a try with that next time :)

  3. Last night assists have been on realistic as well :)

At least in the session I had opened. But I don't know how the cars behave for keyboard/controller players during rain.

How about we schedule another training day next week, with both setups so everybody can get an idea of how things would work in either one.

I somehow like the idea of having a short 20-second break in a race going for half an hour, playing under the goggles and against the FFB of the wheel can be quite exhausting with 37 degrees Celsius out there. But we could also try out. But it is a noticeable break in during the race, and we don't need it (tires should work for that time, fuel is no problem as well). The only real use case for a pitstop is to fix a repaired car.

Oh, and having teams does not disable scoring of each player on his own, it only adds the constructors' championship on top of the normal one. So if we focus on the normal one, that does not prevent us from having teams. But you are right, basically attendance will win the championship. Anybody who misses more than one raceday has no real chance in the competition for the top places anymore, at least with normal scoring (we can "correct" players scores, but I can't think of a meaningful system that somehow avoids having penalties if you don't show up).

  4. Hey everybody,

we had a short talk after the last race today and @Quicksilver suggested something:

We set up a championship for GT3, that will span 5 weeks. We have one raceday every week, with 2 races at one day (including a very short training to get everything set up and a qualifying to find out the starting order).

We can use the games tournament mode to set everything up. To do so I'd need the following:

A final setup for the realism settings

My suggestion would be to have the settings as follows:

    • No enforced perspective (you can freely choose the one you like most)
    • Disabled racing line (if you want to get an idea of the tracks, it might be best to have a look at it beforehand)
    • Custom setups allowed
    • Manual and automatic allowed
    • Driving assistants realistic (only those are available that are actually built in your car)
    • Damage is enabled but in the light version (you can always finish the race or reach the pit, but you can get damaged so heavily that you need a pit stop to be able to compete)
    • Tire wear is on and realistic (shouldn't matter much on a short race)
    • Fuel usage is on (shouldn't make much of a difference anyway)
    • Pit and inlap controlled by the computer
    • All "random" types of damage (car failures and mistakes by the mechanics) are disabled

    A selection for the cars

One easy thing to start with would be one class racing on GT3 cars, as we did today. We can do multiclass racing, but then the game has different scoreboards for all classes. So multiclass only makes sense when we have some people going for a second class. So, if you sign up, post your alternative car choice here, maybe we can get that going.

Every player can choose a car and color on his own, but you cannot change it during the championship. I like the idea of having 2 man teams, that run the same cars and paintjobs and are scored together in a constructors' championship.

    A set of tracks

As we would need 10 tracks for the mode suggested, I've put together a list (that includes the ones named as favorites in the other threads and some to fill it up to 10):

    • Spa
    • Hockenheim
    • Nürburgring
    • Monza
    • Red Bull Ring
    • Barcelona
    • Bathurst
    • Brands Hatch
    • Dubai Autodrome
    • Silverstone

If we'd like, we could add a city-track like Long Beach or anything else. Tell me if you dislike one of the tracks :)

I could fit the tracks with different starting times and weather conditions (snow in Dubai! :D ) or simply randomize the weather.

    A race mode

I would suggest having approx. 15 rounds on the normal GP tracks and adjust it slightly if the tracks are shorter or longer than the reference track.  This is a bit longer than we had today, but makes it a bit more important to have an eye on your tires, as they degrade more. It also gives players the chance to get back to the leading group if they are faster than them for some rounds (once you have a distance of 10 seconds to the leading group, you'd need 5 rounds to get back to them, even if you are faster 2 seconds for every single round, which is hardly possible already, but impossible in a very short race). This would result in a race being approximately half an hour long.

I'd go for a qualifying where everybody has a chance to go for at least 3 rated rounds, which would result in the qualifying being at least avg. lap time times 5 (inlap, thee rounds plus some additional time for tuning etc.).

One last open question would be: Do we want to have a mandatory pitstop. I know some of you dislike it, but it has one nice advantage: It reduces the time impact of a pitstop that you have to go for when you crashed badly. As you could use your mandatory pitstop for that, you only lose the time that is needed for the additional repairs. This might make it a bit easier to cover up early crashes (<.<) in the races. In such short races, you will not necessarily need to change tires and refuel, but you would have the option to do so.

Sooo when you like that concept, I'd need something to set everything up:

    • Everybody who wants to join, has to add me as a friend on steam (I think that's the only way to invite during the creation of the championship ingame). You can find me as Raandom there.
    • I'd need to know the car type and color and your teammate (if we want to set up teams) of every player who wants to join
    • We'd need a vote for the racing day, unless it should stay on sunday (the whole event will be over in less than 2 hours, so depending on your time zone, you should be able to get to bed early enough if you have to)

I don't know whether it's best to post the signups here, or if somebody wants to set up an actual thing with the forums' tournament system or if you simply send them to me via pm and I collect everything. @Quicksilver what do you think?

If you dislike something, this would be the right moment to say it, so we can adjust it. Everything here, including the mandatory pitstops, is only a suggestion. :)

  5. Hey guys,

as I wrote in the discord, here a small questionnaire about your favorite cars and settings. You don't have to answer everything one by one, but it would be great to have an idea which kind of setup we could go for.

    Quote
    1. Favorite car class/championship (some examples: GT1/2/3/4, Touring, Street, Rally/Rallycross, Formula 3/1/X, LMP1/2):
    2. Preferred race mode (Endurance aka fixed time and varying amount of rounds or normal, so the amount of rounds is fixed):
    3. What amount of time would you like to spend on one race?
    4. Would you prefer to imitate a real racing series or would you like to design our own?
    5. Damage system enabled or not?
    6. Tire wear enabled or not (and if yes, would you like to have fastened tire wear, which would probably force everybody to go for pitstops to avoid running on bad wheels for a long time, which is not the case in the realistic settings, unless we drive for 2 hours straight)?
    7. Fuel usage enabled or not?
    8. In game rule enforcement enabled or not?
    9. Would you like to do things like pitstops, in- and outlap manually or do you prefer to have computer controlled cars during those moments?
    10. We could have a team championship, like in real racing series, would you like to make use of that, and if yes, which team size would you prefer?
    11. Name some of your favorite tracks, if you have any:

If you think, that I forgot to add something important, feel free to add it :)

  6. It would be cool if it has that, at least on their steam page it is not listed. I just looked through some videos, at least from viewing I don't like the way they've implemented car physics. Looks like the crew, with people drifting around all corners instead of actual driving. I would have to try it though, to get a feeling for that. But I just quit Forza Horizon for the exact same reason. The cars simply do not feel like I assume they'd do in reality.

I'd personally prefer pc2 right now, you can reduce some simulation effects for the people who prefer to play that way, but still you can have everything else. But if I'm the only one around playing that, it will be hard to get a grid together :(

  7. I'd really like to, if there are enough people around with enough have spare time :)

Never played GRID, it was free somewhere, wasn't it? I don't know if I picked it up back then. I like PC2 and Assetto for the VR + Wheel experience, does GRID have that?

  8. Hey guys,

are there any racing fans around here? I've seen that some of you play Dirt, I'm currently playing Assetto Corsa and Project Cars 2. I really like GT3 cars :)

Maybe we could set up our own small tournament, if there are some more people around who like to play those games.
