untilCMP FH2 Campaign #16: Darkest Hour Battle #7: Chania Aerodrome History "At 08:00 on 20 May 1941, German paratroopers, jumping out of dozens of Junkers Ju 52 aircraft, landed near Maleme Airfield and the town of Chania. The 21st, 22nd and 23rd New Zealand battalions held Maleme Airfield and the vicinity. The Germans suffered many casualties in the first hours of the invasion, a company of III Battalion, 1st Assault Regiment lost 112 killed out of 126 men and 400 of 600 men in III Battalion were killed on the first day.[46] Most of the parachutists were engaged by New Zealanders defending the airfield and Greek forces near Chania. Many gliders following the paratroops were hit by mortar fire seconds after landing and the glider troops who landed safely were almost annihilated by the New Zealand and Greek defenders. Some paratroopers and gliders missed their objectives near both airfields and set up defensive positions to the west of Maleme Airfield and in "Prison Valley" near Chania. Both forces were contained and failed to take the airfields but the defenders had to deploy to face them. Towards the evening of 20 May, the Germans slowly pushed the New Zealanders back from Hill 107, which overlooked the airfield. Greek police and cadets took part, with the 1st Greek Regiment (Provisional) combining with armed civilians to rout a detachment of German paratroopers dropped at Kastelli. The 8th Greek Regiment and elements of the Cretan forces severely hampered movement by the 95th Reconnaissance Battalion on Kolimbari and Paleochora, where Allied reinforcements from North Africa could be landed." --- --- --- ---

FH2 Campaign #16 - Darkest Hour: Battle #6 Thermopyles

untilCMP FH2 Campaign #16: Darkest Hour Battle #6: Thermopyles History "The Olympus line is outflanked and the Allies are on the run, trying to reach their ships in time. But 2 brigades from the British Commonwealth Forces have to cover the retreat, with no hope for victory. The place they have chosen couldn’t match better to their cause. The sacred place of Thermopyles is about to face one more struggle. The Allies, few against many, inspired by the sacrifice of the Spartans nearly 2500 years ago, are determined to hold the Germans for as long as it is needed. They are the last obstacle before the enemy conquers Athens, just like Leonidas and his 300 were standing with no fear against the Persians. In the morning of the 24th of April, the Germans unleash their armored hordes. Glory is about to crown the arms of the defenders of freedom once more… " --- --- --- --- -
FH2 Campaign #16 - Darkest Hour: Battle #5 Zuydcoote

untilCMP FH2 Campaign #16: Darkest Hour Battle #5: Zuydcoote History "After Nazi Germany invaded Poland in SEP1939, marking the beginning of the Second World War, the BEF was sent to aid in the defense of France. Nazi Germany invaded Belgium and the Netherlands on 10MAY1940, and three of their Panzer corps attacked France through the Ardennes and sped to the English Channel. By 21MAY1940, the Nazis had trapped the BEF, the remnants of the Belgian forces, and three French armies in an area along the Northern coast of France. General John Vereker, Commander of the BEF, immediately saw that evacuation across the Channel was the best option and began planning a withdrawal to Dunkirk, the closest location with suitable port facilities. On 22MAY1940, a halt order was issued by the German High Command, with the approval of Adolf Hitler. This gave the trapped Allied forces time to deploy defensive works and retreat large numbers of troops toward Dunkirk, to fight the Battle of Dunkirk. From 28–31MAY1940, in the Siege of Lille, the remaining 40,000 troops of the French 1st Army fought a delaying action against seven Nazi divisions, including three armored divisions. On the 1st day of the evacuation, only 7,669 men were evacuated, but by the end of the eighth day, a total of 338,226 soldiers had been rescued by a ragtag fleet of over 800 boats. Many of the troops were able to embark from the harbor’s protective pier onto 39 British destroyers and other large ships, while others had to wade out from the beaches, waiting for hours in the shoulder-deep water. Some of the evacuated soldiers were ferried from the beaches to the larger ships by the famous “Little ships of Dunkirk”, a flotilla of hundreds of merchant marine boats, fishing boats, pleasure craft, and lifeboats called into service for the emergency. The BEF lost 68,000 soldiers during the French campaign and had to abandon nearly all of their tanks, vehicles, and other equipment." --- --- --- --- --- Map edited by: @king_tigernator Thank you to @Hawkfor providing the pictures. -
untilCMP FH2 Campaign #16: Darkest Hour Battle #4: Sedan History "The Battle of Sedan or Second Battle of Sedan (12–15 May 1940) took place in World War II during the Battle of France in 1940. It was part of the German Wehrmacht's operational plan codenamed Fall Gelb (Case Yellow) for an offensive through the hilly and forested Ardennes, to encircle the Allied armies in Belgium and north-eastern France. German Army Group A crossed the Meuse with the intention of capturing Sedan and pushing westwards towards the Channel coast, to trap the Allied forces that were advancing east into Belgium, as part of the Allied Dyle Plan. Sedan is situated on the east bank of the Meuse. Its capture would give the Germans a base from which to take the Meuse bridges and cross the river. The German divisions could then advance across the open and undefended French countryside to the English Channel. On 12 May, Sedan was captured without resistance and the Germans defeated the French defences around Sedan on the west bank of the Meuse. German Luftwaffe bombing and low morale prevented the French defenders from destroying the bridgeheads. On 14 May, the British Royal Air Force (RAF) and the French Armée de l'Air jointly tried to destroy the bridgeheads, but the Luftwaffe prevented them from doing so. In large air battles, the Allies suffered high losses which depleted Allied bomber strength in the campaign. The French counter-attacked the German bridgeheads from 15 to 17 May, but the offensives fell victim to delay and confusion. On 20 May, five days after consolidating their bridgeheads, the German Army reached the Channel. Crossing the Meuse had enabled the Germans to achieve the operational goal of Fall Gelb and encircle the strongest Allied armies, including the British Expeditionary Force. The resulting June battles destroyed the remaining French army as an effective fighting force and expelled the British from the continent, leading to the defeat of France." --- --- --- --- --- Thank you to @Hawkfor providing the pictures.

untilCMP FH2 Campaign #16: Darkest Hour Battle #3: Stonne History "After the breakthrough at Sedan, German troops began to consolidate their bridgehead against a possible French counterattack. On May 15th, early in the morning, the Infanterie Regiment Großdeutschland and the 10th Panzer Division were tasked to take the heights at the small village of Stonne, in order to protect the southern flank of the main German thrust westwards. However, they did not expect to encounter the French 3rd Armored Division and 3rd Mechanized Infantry Division that arrived late the previous evening, too late to counterattack. In the following days, the small village switched sides 17 times, earning the nickname "Verdun of 1940." --- --- --- --- ---

untilCMP FH2 Campaign #16: Darkest Hour Battle #2: Hannut History "The Battle of Hannut was a Second World War battle fought during the Battle of Belgium which took place between 12 and 14 May 1940 at Hannut in Belgium. It was the largest tank battle in the campaign. It was also the largest clash of tanks in armoured warfare history at the time. The primary purpose of the Germans was to tie down the strongest elements of the French First Army and keep it away from the main German attack by Army Group A through the Ardennes, as laid down in the German operational plan Fall Gelb (Case Yellow), by General Erich von Manstein. The German breakout of the Ardennes was scheduled for 15 May, five days after the German attacks on the Netherlands and Belgium. The delay was to entice the Allies into believing the main thrust would, like the Schlieffen Plan in World War I, come through Belgium and then down into France. When the Allied armies advanced into Belgium according to the Dyle Plan, they would be tied down by German offensive operations in eastern Belgium at Hannut and Gembloux. With the flank of the First Army exposed, the Germans could thrust to the English Channel which would encircle and destroy the Allied forces. For the French, the plan in Belgium was to prepare for a prolonged defence at Gembloux, about 34 km (21 mi) west of Hannut. The French sent two armoured divisions forward, to conduct a delaying action against the German advance and give the rest of the First Army time to dig in at Gembloux." --- --- --- --- --- --- Thank you to @Hawkfor providing the pictures.

FH2 Campaign #16 - Darkest Hour: Battle #1 Khalkhin Gol
Quicksilver posted an event in Forgotten Hope 2
untilCMP FH2 Campaign #16: Darkest Hour Battle #1: Khalkhin Gol History "By the summer of 1939, Japanese strength was estimated at around 80,000 soldiers, 180 tanks and 450 aircraft. Soviet strength had reached approximately 50,000 soldiers, supported by 498 tanks and armored vehicles and 581 fighters and bombers. In July 1939, Japanese forces moved across the frontier with Mongolia and, inflicting heavy losses on Soviet and Mongolian troops, occupied the disputed border region. On Aug. 20, 1939, upon the signing of the German-Soviet Nonaggression Pact, Zhukov launched an attack on Japanese forces in Mongolia. Using his artillery and infantry to pin Japanese forces in place, Zhukov sent his tanks to attack on both flanks of the Japanese position. The attack encircled the Japanese Sixth Army and ultimately crushed it. Roughly 75 percent of the Japanese frontline troops were killed in action. The fighting ended on Sept. 16." --- --- -

A new FH2 campaign will be starting around mid-September to play through 12 maps (and at least one scrim). The campaign will end before Christmas. We need players to volunteer for all leading roles. If there are no volunteers to lead the teams, regiments or squads then the campaign will NOT go ahead! For all those that complain during campaigns that their HQ, CO's or SL's do not know what they are doing - this is your time to shine and prove you're more than just talk! POST BELOW if you're interested in any of the roles (HQ / CO / SL), or send a PM to @Sir_Kowskoskey, @RAnDOOm or @Hawk

A huge thank you to all those who have donated in our latest donations drive! With their help we have doubled our monies, but we still need another € 235,00 to be able to fund all our activities for the remainder of 2024. So, if you can, please donate towards helping the CMP community.

Calling All Members Of The CMP Community! The monies are running low in the CMP funds account, and we need your help if we are to continue supporting our forums, "Discord server, Teamspeak and most importantly the game server that runs our FH2 campaigns, Valheim, Assetto Corsa and more games if they are needed in the future! You can see our costs at https://cmp-gaming.com/topic/963-donating-to-cmp-gaming/ Over the last three years we've seen a decline in the number of donations, and while we know that the worldwide economy isn't great, and people are struggling to pay for the basic necessities, we also know that those in our community have come to find CMP as a place to let off steam and relax with friends - although those who lead players in the FH2 campaigns may say it is less than relaxing! We are now over 6 months into 2024 and we have only just reached one-third of our funding target for this year. On average, we typically see 20 or so CMP members pay to fund the costs we incur, as a community. That's 20 members out of the 2,800+ members who are registered on the website, and of the 260+ members who signed up and enjoyed playing in our last FH2 campaign. Just 20 members enabled the other 240+ members to participate in the 11-week FH2 campaign. This shouldn't be the norm. What we need is for our community as a whole to step up. If you want to be able to continue playing FH2 campaigns, continue using Teamspeak to meet up and chat with friends, use the forums to arrange games, campaign and other events, then we need donations. If only 100 members donate €5 each then we can reach our target for the year, and allow us to keep the Teamspeak service running, as well as set up and run our autumn FH2 campaign. If we don't have the funds, we can't run the community that so many of you enjoy being a part of. We know that some of you wish to donate, but cannot donate due to restrictions on using PayPal in your country. Thank you for looking into alternative means of donating, I've spoken with a fair number of community members to discuss other ways to donate. If you can, and would like to donate, you can use the button below to make a single or monthly donation to CMP, or use the buttons on the side bar of the Home page.

The 15th FH2 Campaign: The Last Winter Has Ended - Congratulations to the Axis on their win! From all of the Committee, Admins and Moderators we want to thank everyone who took part in our fifthteenth FH2 campaign. It's hard to believe that a game which started life back in 2007 is still seeing a full server of 100 players continue to participate in CMP's campaigns in 2024, and I'm sure that with a team still passionate and dedicated to Forgotten Hope 2, the game will be around for many more years to come. And, if it doesn't make anyone feel old realizing they've been playing this game (and participating in many organised FH2 campaigns) for over 17 years, then the sudden awareness that CMP is in it's 7th year of running FH2 campaigns might give pause for thought! At present we're still deciding on what theatre to run for our Autumn 2024 campaign, but as soon as we know more we'll be sure to post a hint or two. Some interesting statistics from the 15th campaign: In total there were nearly 60,000 kills over the course of the 11 battles (including team kills) - an average of around 5,423 kills per battle. The top three military hardware on the battlefield were medium tanks (both teams), and Axis artillery. The Panzer IV H ruled supreme in this campaign with over 1,500 kills. There were 561 close range kills made with bayonets, knives, entrenchment tools and spades. 549 players were unlucky enough to step on an anti-personnel mine during the campaign. One player was unlucky enough to be killed by a AN M8 Smoke Grenade. Get all the stats from Campaign 15 here You can also view the scoreboard for Campaign 15 here A Big Thank You To Everyone Who Yet Again Made Another Campaign Possible Our HQ's, CO's And SL's Thank you to all those that helped to lead armies and squads in this campaign. turbomursu - Pr0z4c - Tutvys - Erwin - DonbassCossack BaskaBommi - The_Green_Bunny - knokworst - aquintus - CptBocquier - estate8143 - genp - postelnik - IVAN_88 Otto - Swedish Green - 350ping_nobully - Kerst - Vlasov - RayderPSG - wanchekid Without you volunteering to help lead, we would not have been able to run this campaign! Mapping and Mapping Support Papillon, Geopat, Watchtower, Pr0z4c, SgtAlex, CptBocquier and DonbassCossack A small group of dedicated volunteers have yet again generously given their personal time to create the maps used in this campaign. Despite having families, jobs, and other commitments, they manage to prepare these maps in time for our events. Papillon and GeoPat have consistently contributed to ensuring the maps are ready for training and battles, alongside Watchtower, Pr0z4c and SgtAlex who have either created new maps from scratch, or brought existing maps up to a high standard of work, and worthy of being played in our campaigns. Once again, they have put in tremendous effort to get the maps ready for this campaign. We extend a huge thank you to them for all their hard work! Without our mappers, we wouldn't have these amazing custom campaigns and would instead be relying on public maps, hoping they work well in an organized setting. Also, thank you to CptBocquier, Vlasov and DonbassCossack for helping to bring in some of the more interesting vehicles, player models, weapons and buildings to the campaigns including the new church static, Panzerzugwagen and wine bottles found at the end of the campaign We need more volunteers to learn map-making and assist in creating new maps or updating existing ones. If you're interested, please post below, and we'll share some resources to help you get started. Game Servers and Teamspeak kummitus Always working behind the scenes, Kummitus ensures the servers and Teamspeak run smoothly, providing essential support for mappers as they edit and build the maps for campaigns. Without Kummitus managing the technical challenges of running the campaigns, Teamspeak, the forums, and Discord, we wouldn't have many of the features that bring a campaign together. We are deeply grateful for all his efforts! Forums, Graphics, Social Media and Community Support RAnDOOm Sir_Kowskoskey Hawk RayderPSG Erwin RAnDOOm plays a crucial role in preparing our campaigns by setting up forums, the campaign interface, medals, ads, social media promotions, and assisting officers and HQ with forum access. When we launch a campaign and open registration, you can be sure that RAnDOOm has done much of the work to ensure everything is ready on time. Without his efforts, meeting the tight schedules for our biannual campaigns would be much more challenging! Sir_Kowskoskey, RayderPSG, and Hawk work tirelessly to communicate with various language regiments and players, gently persuading them to take on leadership roles and monitoring potential player numbers and side preferences for each campaign. Their assistance in securing HQ and officers for each campaign and ensuring smooth operations is greatly appreciated! Hawk and Erwin are responsible for the captivating campaign ads (Hawk's adverts are always masterpieces!) and the atmospheric map loading images you see, often featuring intriguing WW2 quotes. Their work adds the final touches, bringing extra shine to our campaigns and maps! Map Balancing and Feedback Hawk RayderPSG Hawk and RayderPSG take on the challenging and often thankless task of balancing weapons, vehicles, and planes on campaign maps. Despite frequent complaints about weapon balance, they do an incredible job of testing and researching to ensure everything is as balanced as possible. Behind the scenes, they engage in extensive discussions about map content, always prioritizing balance and avoiding personal bias, even when they are playing or leading a squad. We owe them a huge thank you for striving to make each battle fair and equal for both teams! AND FINALLY A MASSIVE THANK YOU TO YOU, THE PLAYERS WHO JOINED OUR CAMPAIGN! We are delighted that so many of you have found CMP to be a welcoming home to enjoy gaming with like-minded individuals. Our hope is to continue growing this community, expanding the range of games we play, and encouraging members to take the lead on introducing new games for us to enjoy together. If there’s a game you’re passionate about and believe it would be a great fit for our community, please PM a Committee member or an admin and let us know! We may be able to support you in setting up a group within CMP. Donating To CMP Without donations to help cover the costs for servers and software we cannot continue to create and host FH2 campaigns, support new games when possible; as well as run the forums, Teamspeak and Discord channels. We are now midway through 2024 and we need members to step up and donate whatever they can afford to help cover the monthly community costs - even a few Euros will help. You can use the button below to make a single or monthly donation to CMP, or use the buttons on the side bar of the Home page.
